I write this at a time of great optimism and I’m thrilled to be the Secondary Headteacher at the British College of Gavà and to help lead us into its next stage of development. I consider myself most fortunate to interact daily with students who are considerate, curtious and engaging. Our aim is simple; we desire all our pupils ‘to be the best they can be’ both academically and in character.
Teaching and learning are at the heart of everything we do with child centred learning at the forefront. The teaching team combine professional experience with innovative learning pedagogy, together with the care needed for all pupils. While we recognise the significance of academic success, we also aspire our students to be internationally minded and true global citizens after graduation. As part of the this, the IB Learner Profile is integral to guide our pupils to foster excellent character and to be enlightened in thought and action.
We follow the English National Curriculum, whilst meeting the regional and national requirements of Catalonia and Spain. This provides our pupils with a broad and balanced curriculum within Key Stage 3 (Years 7 – 9) that enables them to gain experience in a range of subjects. Within Key Stage 4, the emphasis changes for our Years 10 – 11 pupils who focus on GCSE examinations. GCSE courses encourage breadth, depth and rigour in preparation for entry into Key Stage 5 – Sixthform study. Where possible, we seek to offer GCSE pupils subject options where they can begin to explore more specialised directions. Please refer to the curriculum pages.
We provide a vigorous Personal, Social, Health and Education (PSHE) programme, whereby vertical tutor groups are assigned throughout the secondary school. These periods are stimulated with real life scenarios that students across all year groups get to discuss and debate on various issues. The PSHE programme is support by our weekly assembly with interesting international themes presented and explored. Furthermore, as part of the secondary curriculum, we provide pupils with enriched learning opportunities in the after-school Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) Programme. This commences daily whereby pupils engage in sports, music, art, film, robotics, language and more.
We are currently in the building process of expanding the secondary school with modern state of the art learning facilities. We have an enormous potential to continue to progressively develop where our pupils can dream, achieve and be the best they can be.
