We can help every step of the way

Whether you are looking to join us from a local school or abroad, transition can always be challenging.

We have support and expertise on hand to help you every step of the way.

We will be happy to help you by arranging for you to visit the school, either at one of our 'Open Day' events or for a personal tour during the school week.

We look forward to hearing from you and guiding you through our application process.

Open Days:

Join us and visit our Campus!

An Open Day is an important opportunity for prospective parents to experience the BCG community first hand. This will be a great option to learn about our varied curriculum, meet the team, tour the school and discover our learning atmosphere.

Equivalence Tables

This is a very useful resource to compare different school systems when moving to a new country or changing schools so you as a parent understand which is the right class and Key Stage for your child.

Admissions Process

At BCG we strive to optimize our Admission Process. By following these steps, both the school and the parents ensure that their application will be processed in the shortest time possible.

Step 1)  Complete the form on the admissions page.
Step 2) Complete the pre-enrollment form (will be sent by email) and submit academic reports.
Step 3) Schedule a school visit or a call.
Step 4) Students from Year 2 onwards will be invited to come for an English and Maths assessment at BCG. (Secondary students will also need a reference letter from their current/previous school).
Step 5) If the results are what is expected, your child's place will be reserved upon payment of the admission and matriculation fees.
Step 6) We will send you further instructions so you can start submitting all the required documents and complete the enrolment process.

Assistance will be provided for you shortly after receiving the application with scheduling options for visiting our campus.

The British College of Gavà is an international school and as such is open for admissions the whole year round. We are always delighted to meet with parents and show them around the school.

Entry Requirements

We will request reports from previous schools. Pupils will also be interviewed by senior members of staff. The admission of a pupil is conditional upon our terms and conditions.

FAQs

From 8.30 am to 16.30 pm. Pick up and drop off hours will vary slightly depending on the child’s age. We also offer a Breakfast Club from 7,30 am for those students who need to be dropped off earlier.

On average there are 18 pupils per class. Our maximum is 24 pupils per class and two classes per year group.

40% Spanish and 60% International. Within this group, we have more than 30 nationalities including pupils from the UK, United States, Russia, Germany, China, Switzerland, France, The Netherlands and others.

The English National Curriculum, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme (IBCP)

All academic staff teaching the English National Curriculum are qualified British teachers. Those teaching Spanish, Catalan and French languages are qualified native teachers.

We accept children with no English between the ages of 3 and 5 (EYFS and Year 1).

For all other ages, we will do an English baseline assessment.

We offer additional EAL support for learners who are beginning the acquisition of the English language, to ensure the best levels of communication, understanding, reading and writing while encouraging the skills of creativity and instilling a self reflective work ethic in the children.

English is the lingua franca at school and we encourage students to speak it. Nonetheless, being an international school supportive of each child’s culture and mother tongue, you might hear other languages during breaktime.

Many students may be speaking in Spanish in the playground (as it's the mother tongue spoken by the larger group), so we find that new children joining the school with little or no knowledge of the language learn it very quickly.

All students at BCG study Spanish and Catalan. Non-Spanish/Catalan speakers have specific lessons as a foreign language.

French. From Year 3 all our students learn French.

BCG offers a wide range of sports including football (7 and 5-a-side pitches), basketball, tennis, volleyball, hockey, gymnastics, athletics and swimming. There are also extra-curricular activities, which take place after school (from 4.30 to 5.30 pm) and include, amongst others, tennis, dance or basketball.

We are also offering surf and rock climbing as part of the PE curriculum.

This depends on the age of the pupil. As a general rule, in EYFS children will start to bring home reading and number homework from Reception onwards.

In Lower Primary children will be expected to read regularly at home (English and Spanish), they will have weekly spellings to do and will be set some basic math homework. Mainly homework is set using online resources and platforms.

In Upper Primary pupils are expected to read regularly (English and Spanish), they will have weekly spellings to do and will be set math and Spanish homework. Much of the homework linked to the British Curriculum will be set using online resources and the platforms available. Occasionally children will have project homework linked to the topics being studied in class.

In the Secondary, pupils are set purposeful, relevant homework tasks on a regular basis. Years 7-9 pupils should expect to be doing a maximum of  ½ hour – 1 hour of homework per evening. In Year 10 and 11 the amount of homework would increase to 1 – 1-½ hours.

In Years 12 and 13 students take on a lot more responsibility for their own learning and should expect to study 6 to 8 hours a week per subject. If homework is not set, they should use the time to review academic content or read around the subject.

IGCSE, IB for Sixth Form students

Students at BCG are used to welcoming newcomers and are always very friendly and helpful. Year Group tutors make sure that “buddies” are always on hand to support new students.

We have a group of students volunteering to become Language Ambassadors or Playground Leaders. Their main responsibility is to make sure that new students feel comfortable and well-received at school from the very beginning.

All students from Nursery to Year 11 are required to wear a uniform. We have winter and summer uniforms for daily wear and physical education uniforms. Years 12 and 13 (IB students) do not wear a uniform but need to follow a dress code.

A wide variety of afterschool activities and clubs are on offer for primary and secondary students. More information can be found on the Ecap page here.
